Describe your desired outcome

Start by writing what you want to learn or do more confidently, along with your training history and the hours you can protect. If privacy, accessibility or a quiet room matters, include that in the brief. A clear question helps prospective trainers explain their approach and makes it possible to compare offers that otherwise use the same “personal training” label.

See a first session

A consultation should ask about your goals and relevant history, observe appropriate movement, explain the starting point and outline the next few appointments. Watch how the trainer responds when an instruction is unclear or an exercise needs adjustment. A hard sample workout is not the only evidence of skill. Ask who will coach the later sessions and whether the venue permits their work.

Read the plan

A useful first-month plan names frequency, exercise categories, effort, equipment, independent practice if any, and a review date. You should understand the purpose of each major movement and what changes if it does not suit you. Medical diagnosis and treatment are outside an exercise trainer’s role. Where a clinician has provided restrictions, ask how the coach will respect them.

Compare the real cost and trip

Request the all-in total, including facility fees, travel, taxes, package terms and cancellation. Visit or test the route at the intended hour. A studio near Union Station may fit an office schedule but not a weekend trip; a home visit can solve travel and create building access questions. Choose the written service you can sustain, not simply the lowest session price.
